The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) is using all available tools to monitor the spread of contagious respiratory viruses that can cause cold symptoms or severe breathing problems, including COVID-19, the influneza (flu), and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

How to Protect Yourself and Others

Here are some steps you can follow to prevent the spread of respiratory illness:

Wash Your Hands

Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.

Cover Your Cough

Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Afterwards, throw the tissue in the trash.

Get Vaccinated
You can get a flu vaccine at the same time as a COVID-19 vaccine.
Reduce the Spread

Avoid close contact with people who are sick, and if you are sick, limit your contact with others.

Clean and Disinfect
Make sure to thoroughly clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects.
Avoid Touching Your Face
Steer clear of touching your eyes, nose, and mouth, as this is a common way to transmit germs.
