Child Health Care Consultants

Child Health Care Consultants (CCHCs) are trained health professionals with education and experience in:

  • Child health
  • Community health
  • Early care and education

CCHCs work with child care facilities to help ensure they are able to provide high quality, safe, and healthy environments.

All qualified CCHCs in North Carolina have successfully completed the NC Child Care Health Consultant Training Course

What Do CHCCs Do?

  • Assess child care facilities to ensure they are providing healthy and safe environments
  • Develop strategies for inclusion of children with special health care needs
  • Assist early educators with preventing and managing injuries and infectious diseases
  • Connect early educators and families to community health resources
  • Provide up-to-date information on health and safety regulations and best practices
  • Provide health and safety technical assistance and training

CCHCs Make a Difference

Child care health consultation has been shown to positively impact:

  • Health and safety policies and practices in child care programs
  • Access to preventative health care for children and staff
  • The development and use of standards-based health and safety policies in early childhood education programs
